Spring Comes to the Highlands

Spring Comes to the Highlands

This is the last painting I have from my time in Scotland. This area is between Gartly and Huntly in Aberdeenshire on the edge of the Highlands. This is my family's ancestral homeland and still a world-renowned hunting and fishing resort. The Bogey and the Deveron rivers run through it. If you've never been there, it's quite marvellous. You can snow ski, go to the beach, visit two fine national forests, two of my family's seventeen castles or visit the famous distilleries all within a fifty-mile radius of this location. It was so cold and wet during winter that the coming of Spring really felt like a new lease on life.

This is one of my personal favorite paintings, not only because I am permanently homesick for Scotland, but because I think I see something of the influence of the Impressionists in it.

Others of my paintings of this area include My Favorite Place and Huntly Castle.
